Style file – Scandinavian meets 50’s

We mixed pieces from different eras to achieve a playful and sophisticated look for one of our client’s guest bedrooms. As guest bedrooms are not used as often as other rooms in the house you can push colour, texture, pattern and have some fun. Guest beds never looked so inviting! Get the look 1. Colour story

When spring hits London, I get obsessive about colour. And not just soft, washed out, half-arsed colour. I mean bold, exciting, punch-you-in-the-guts-colour.

How to buy art

Art can transform your interior. Whether your thing is Pop Art or English landscape, hanging a piece of art can really set the tone of your room and lift it to a whole other level. So where do you start? How do you feel at the thought of ‘buying some art’? Most people think snooty, intimidating galleries where everyone looks at you when you walk in, hefty price tags, or ‘I don’t know where to start looking for the right thing’, resulting in total fear of making the wrong purchase at the wrong price. Graphic floors

We have sourced the most wonderful patterned floor tiles for the hall, cloakroom and guest bathroom at our new project. They are a take on Victorian encaustic tiles but lots more contemporary. We are specifying more and more encaustic floor tiles for our projects. They have a more interesting tactility than porcelain tiles (which give a similar design look). Encaustic tiles feel great under bare feet.

A chevron pattern scaled up using 1m long blocks can look really contemporary and luxurious. A painted herringbone in black or dark grey is extra glamorous. What I love about modern parquet is that it was once only available for the super famous and wealthy because the complexity of laying the individual parquet blocks was prohibitively expensive. The new modern parquets are much easier to lay meaning that they are within reach for most …

Enveloping armchairs

I think it’s fairly safe to say we love armchairs. Their comforting, enveloping contemporary shapes. One of our favourites is the Papa Bear chair by Hans J. Wegner. It has modernist organic lines, a great sense of scale and works perfectly upholstered in a Kvadrat felt or a simple mohair velvet. The perfect winter chair for the luxe minimalist. Also the ‘P22’ lounge chair by Patrick Norguet, Cassina will give you the biggest ‘hug’. For our clients, we source originals from a number of well-researched auction houses located in the Nordic countries.  Or the nice people at Twenty Twenty One …
